Why Is Coding Essential for Kids?
Currently, I am working as a Senior Software Engineer. I want to express some idea about the background of kids learning code since childhood. What are the advantages, and why is it essential in this era?. Now we are in 2022. Technology is rapidly growing over and over, every day, step by step. Coding is a fundamental building block of this whole technology. Those who attend to live with these new technologies need to know the fundamentals. Otherwise, our students will unbalance in computer literacy in the future. It may also improve their life skills and academic studies. Many research has shown that children who study computer science perform better in other subjects.
“Everyone in this country should learn how to program because it teaches you how to think” — Steve Jobs.
Nowadays, coding is an essential subject you should learn. Therefore your kids must study coding since from their childhood. I believe everyone has a shared sense of how the programs work. Without that knowledge, sometimes we get into trouble with the UI/UX of the application. Sometimes users blame developers, but in the end, there can be holes between the product and the user. Students are the future of the world. The world is advancing the technologies. Coding is a fundamental knowledge in each of these new technologies. So that’s obvious to get in touch like History, Literature and other common subjects which we must know even to some extend.
What is Coding
This is the very first question the kids ask. It is the primary term for computer programming. Coding is how we instruct the computer to do a specific task. Initially, we can recommend a few programming languages to start the coding. C is what I recommend as the first. Because it has a minimum terminology when comparing other languages such as Java. Here we do not want to emphasize strict coding practices such as object-oriented programming. After we learn the C language, we can go for others such as Java, C++, Javascript, SQL, etc.
Other than text-based coding languages, kids can learn to build coding by using visual blocks such as Blockly. It will help to build mini-games such as Minecraft. There have so many visual block platforms that can utilize…
